Elden Ring offers an incredible range of gear, but it is hard to resist the pull of a katana. These slender blades hit hard and build up bleed.
For sorcery builds, the Moonveil is an excellent choice. This powerful katana can dispatch enemies quickly and comes with an outstanding special skill. Better still, it is fairly easy to obtain. Follow this guide to find out where to get it.
Understanding the Moonveil
The Moonveil is a magic-based katana that requires 12 Strength, 18 Dexterity and 23 Intelligence to wield. It is widely regarded as one of the best melee options for any sorcery build thanks to its excellent Intelligence scaling. It also builds up blood loss for extra damage.
However, the Moonveil's main appeal lies in its special skill, Transient Moonlight. It lets the player sheathe the katana and then release a horizontal wave of magical energy for devastating damage. It does cost a lot of Focus Points (FP), so it is best used sparingly.
The Moonveil's item description reads:
Katana forged from glintstone. Masterwork of a Sellian smith. When sheathed, light envelops the blade, which explains its nickname, Moonveil.
Where to find the Moonveil

The Moonveil is obtained by defeating the boss at the end of the Gael Tunnel dungeon, located east of Limgrave, right on the border of Caelid. You can reach this dungeon quite early in the game, and getting to the boss door should not be too difficult. What waits inside is another story.
The challenge is defeating the Magma Wyrm at the end of Gael Tunnel, which can be tough for an under-levelled character. If you are trying to get the katana very early in the game, it is best to invite a friend to join you in co-op.
If you are at a low level and cannot bring a friend, you will have to master dodging or blocking against a massive enemy in a very confined space while dealing moderate damage.
Once you manage to beat the beast, you will receive the Moonveil katana and be one step closer to the ultimate sorcery build.
