Blade (刀身): The grey blade, forged in Damascus steel, shows characteristic swirling patterns that catch the eye. This forging technique not only creates a remarkable look but also reinforces the resilience and durability of the blade.
Guard (Tsuba 鍔): The finely carved brass Tsuba is embellished with intricate motifs, illustrating the skill of the craftsmen. The sumptuous design draws on the undulating, majestic form of the dragon, symbolising wisdom and strength.
Scabbard (Saya 鞘): The lacquered solid wood Saya is enhanced by a hand-painted dragon, a true emblem of Japanese culture. Red and black intertwine to bring the mythical creature to life in a display of vibrant colour.
Handle (Tsuka 柄): The solid wood handle, covered in Galuchat leather, offers a comfortable and secure grip. The texture of the Galuchat is not only beautiful to look at but also practical, offering superior grip.
It brings an imposing and elegant presence to any space, reflecting the character traits of the traditional Japanese samurai.
Buying a sword in the UK
Sold only to adults aged 18 and over. Curved swords with a blade of 50 cm or more are hand-forged using traditional methods, as required by the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons) Order as amended in 2008.
Carrying a bladed article in a public place without good reason is an offence. Transport your sword wrapped, and only for a legitimate purpose (dojo, re-enactment, collection). Rules may differ in Scotland.
Care
- Wipe the blade after every handling with a soft cloth; never touch it with bare fingers.
- Apply a thin film of oil every few weeks to prevent rust.
- Store it horizontally in its saya, edge up, away from damp.
- Use only on suitable practice targets (rolled tatami mats, bamboo); never strike hard objects.
