The Nami 波 Katana is a work of art that celebrates the strength and elegance of waves, a powerful symbol in Japanese culture.

Blade (刀身): T10 steel, chosen for this blade, is renowned for its toughness and its ability to hold a precise edge. The hamon is not just an aesthetic detail; it represents resilience and harmony.

Guard (Tsuba 鍔): The finely carved copper tsuba illustrates craft skill and attention to detail. Copper is prized for its malleability, allowing complex, detailed engraving. It also develops a patina that evolves over time, giving the katana a personal character.

Scabbard (Saya 鞘): The lacquered wood of the saya is visually appealing with its dragon motif and also protects the blade well. The lacquered finish keeps moisture out of the wood, helping to preserve the blade. The cotton sageo ties securely and makes the katana easier to carry.

Handle (Tsuka 柄): With its genuine white ray-skin covering, the handle offers an excellent grip thanks to the naturally textured surface of the ray skin. Together with the copper menuki, this ensures secure handling and adds comfort in use.

Buying a sword in the UK

Sold only to adults aged 18 and over. Curved swords with a blade of 50 cm or more are hand-forged using traditional methods, as required by the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons) Order as amended in 2008.

Carrying a bladed article in a public place without good reason is an offence. Transport your sword wrapped, and only for a legitimate purpose (dojo, re-enactment, collection). Rules may differ in Scotland.

Care

Wipe the blade after every handling with a soft cloth; never touch it with bare fingers.
Apply a thin film of oil every few weeks to prevent rust.
Store it horizontally in its saya, edge up, away from damp.
Use only on suitable practice targets (rolled tatami mats, bamboo); never strike hard objects.
