The Katana Kaji 火事 pays tribute to the ancient art of Japanese swordsmithing and embodies the power of fire in its design. It is an excellent choice for martial arts practitioners and collectors.

Blade (刀身): Forged in T10 steel, known for its toughness, the blade features a wavy hamon that is more than decoration: it indicates differential hardening, which adds flexibility and strength. The double bo-hi (blade grooves) lightens the sword and adds to the elegance of its profile.

Guard (tsuba 鍔): The copper tsuba, meticulously sculpted in the shape of a dragon, is both protective and symbolic, as the dragon stands for wisdom and strength in Japanese culture. The sturdiness of the copper gives the hands solid protection during use.

Scabbard (saya 鞘): The red lacquered wood of the scabbard, completed by a red and white sageo, is a sign of passion and bravery. The lacquer protects the wood and the sageo provides a secure hold when carrying the sword.

Handle (tsuka 柄): Wrapped in genuine white rayskin, the handle offers a secure, durable grip. Rayskin is valued for its durability and for a texture that prevents slipping. The copper menuki add both beauty and balance, while the bamboo mekugi fasten the blade firmly to the handle.

Buying a sword in the UK

Sold only to adults aged 18 and over. Curved swords with a blade of 50 cm or more are hand-forged using traditional methods, as required by the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons) Order as amended in 2008.

Carrying a bladed article in a public place without good reason is an offence. Transport your sword wrapped, and only for a legitimate purpose (dojo, re-enactment, collection). Rules may differ in Scotland.

Care

Wipe the blade after every handling with a soft cloth; never touch it with bare fingers.
Apply a thin film of oil every few weeks to prevent rust.
Store it horizontally in its saya, edge up, away from damp.
Use only on suitable practice targets (rolled tatami mats, bamboo); never strike hard objects.
