The Heiwa 平和 katana, meaning "peace" in Japanese, is a sword that subtly blends tradition and symbolism. With its white saya decorated with floral motifs, this katana is an artistic representation of the historic Japanese clans and their rich heritage.
Blade
The 71 cm blade has mysterious violet reflections and is made of refined T10 carbon steel, known for its robustness. The distinctive groove and hamon line add to the beauty of the blade, making it a striking display piece.
Guard (Tsuba 鍔)
The guard is a masterpiece of finely carved iron, with elaborate motifs that reinforce the historical look and beauty of the katana, while effectively protecting the user's hand.
Scabbard (Saya 鞘)
The solid wood scabbard, lacquered in white, is decorated with delicate floral motifs reflecting the traditional emblems of the samurai clans. It is an eye-catching element, giving the katana a distinctive character.
Handle (Tsuka 柄)
The handle is wrapped in galuchat leather, giving a comfortable and secure grip. This material is renowned for its durability and elegance, adding a touch of refinement to the katana.
Buying a sword in the UK
Sold only to adults aged 18 and over. Curved swords with a blade of 50 cm or more are hand-forged using traditional methods, as required by the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons) Order as amended in 2008.
Carrying a bladed article in a public place without good reason is an offence. Transport your sword wrapped, and only for a legitimate purpose (dojo, re-enactment, collection). Rules may differ in Scotland.
Care
- Wipe the blade after every handling with a soft cloth; never touch it with bare fingers.
- Apply a thin film of oil every few weeks to prevent rust.
- Store it horizontally in its saya, edge up, away from damp.
- Use only on suitable practice targets (rolled tatami mats, bamboo); never strike hard objects.
