Description and specifications
The Kengen 権限 Katana is made with a san-mai forge, giving a three-part blade. This provides exceptional rigidity and strength on the outside and a unique suppleness at the core of the blade. As a result, the blade is resilient rather than brittle.
The visual composition is also very interesting, with contrasting colours and details such as the tsuba and the kashira that are unique.

Blade (刀身): The san-mai forging technique, with a T10 steel core surrounded by Damascus hamon layers, offers exceptional strength and optimal flexibility. This three-part structure makes the blade less prone to breakage, a good combination of hardness and resilience.
Guard (Tsuba 鍔): The tsuba, cast in pure copper with gilt-silver inlays, is not only a protective element; it is the heart of the Kengen Katana's visual identity. Copper, known for its ductility and natural antimicrobial properties, is enriched with gilt silver for added strength and a sumptuous shine.
Scabbard (Saya 鞘): The solid wood saya bears a deep green lacquer inspired by rayskin, giving the katana a luxurious look and extra protection. This choice of materials is ideal for long-term conservation of the blade, combining distinctive aesthetics with durability.
Handle (Tsuka 柄): Covered in genuine rayskin leather, the tsuka provides a firm grip and a rich texture. Rayskin, known for its wear resistance and secure hold, enhances the tactile and visual experience of this katana.
Buying a sword in the UK
Sold only to adults aged 18 and over. Curved swords with a blade of 50 cm or more are hand-forged using traditional methods, as required by the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons) Order as amended in 2008.
Carrying a bladed article in a public place without good reason is an offence. Transport your sword wrapped, and only for a legitimate purpose (dojo, re-enactment, collection). Rules may differ in Scotland.
Care
- Wipe the blade after every handling with a soft cloth; never touch it with bare fingers.
- Apply a thin film of oil every few weeks to prevent rust.
- Store it horizontally in its saya, edge up, away from damp.
- Use only on suitable practice targets (rolled tatami mats, bamboo); never strike hard objects.
