Description
The Twilight Odachi is the flagship of the modern line: 113 cm overall, a 78 cm blade and a 34 cm two-handed grip, balanced at 2.1 kg. It is a modern reading of the odachi — the oversized sword that samurai reserved for open ground.
The blade is forged in 80CrV2 high-carbon steel imported from Germany, spring-tempered for serious toughness — an alloy proven in heavy-duty knives, brought here to the scale of a sword, which keeps a hard edge while withstanding heavy shocks. Its two-tone DLC coating deposits a film of diamond-like carbon on the steel, dividing the blade between deep black flats and a bright bevel, with engraved geometric panels running along the spine.
The handle is G10 composite with a semi-carbon-fibre insert, a high-pressure fibreglass laminate known for its strength, durability and resistance to moisture and wear. Its long, faceted body and flared pommel give real leverage in the swing, while the 7075 aluminium and copper fittings — including a massive openwork hexagonal guard — lock the whole together with no play at all.
The sword comes with a Kydex 2.0 scabbard — a robust, precision-moulded sheath designed for secure retention and practical carrying, with multiple attachment eyelets for flexible set-ups.
Produced in a limited edition of 100 pieces, the Twilight Odachi is the most imposing piece in the range — German high-carbon steel, two-tone DLC and a two-handed reach that nothing else in the collection matches.
Buying a sword in the UK
Sold only to adults aged 18 and over. Curved swords with a blade of 50 cm or more are hand-forged using traditional methods, as required by the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons) Order as amended in 2008.
Carrying a bladed article in a public place without good reason is an offence. Transport your sword wrapped, and only for a legitimate purpose (dojo, re-enactment, collection). Rules may differ in Scotland.
Care
- Wipe the blade after every handling with a soft cloth; never touch it with bare fingers.
- Apply a thin film of oil every few weeks to prevent rust.
- Store it horizontally in its saya, edge up, away from damp.
- Use only on suitable practice targets (rolled tatami mats, bamboo); never strike hard objects.
