The Oak Heart Long Sword is a sturdy one-handed arming sword built around a surprisingly broad, full blade – a field knight's sword, plain-spoken and unfussy. Its warm brown fittings and solid wood grip give it the look of a blade that has travelled far.
Blade: Forged in 60Si2CrA spring steel, the 70 cm (27.6 in) blade is exceptionally wide at 7 cm (2.8 in), giving it real visual presence while remaining light and lively in the hand.
Guard: Elegantly S-curved 304 stainless steel quillons protect the hand and add a touch of refinement to an otherwise rustic sword.
Scabbard: Made of wood and genuine leather in a warm brown finish, fitted with a polished steel chape and a matching suspension ring for easy handling.
Handle: The 20 cm (7.9 in) handle is built on a solid wood core, hand-braided with brown cord and topped with a steel disc pommel that balances the broad blade for confident one-handed control.
Dimensions: At 101 cm (39.8 in) overall and only 1.6 kg (3.5 lb), the Oak Heart is quick, manageable and well suited to display or controlled practice.
A dependable, authentic piece for medieval enthusiasts and collectors, the Oak Heart Long Sword embodies the spirit of the seasoned field knight.
Buying a sword in the UK
Sold only to adults aged 18 and over. Curved swords with a blade of 50 cm or more are hand-forged using traditional methods, as required by the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons) Order as amended in 2008.
Carrying a bladed article in a public place without good reason is an offence. Transport your sword wrapped, and only for a legitimate purpose (dojo, re-enactment, collection). Rules may differ in Scotland.
Care
- Wipe the blade after every handling with a soft cloth; never touch it with bare fingers.
- Apply a thin film of oil every few weeks to prevent rust.
- Store it horizontally in its saya, edge up, away from damp.
- Use only on suitable practice targets (rolled tatami mats, bamboo); never strike hard objects.
