When I placed my order, I did select the custom engraving option, but on receiving the product, it unfortunately had not been done. The katana was delivered to me without any engraving.

Blade (刀身): T10 steel is recognised for its high carbon content, which gives it exceptional strength and hardness. The wavy Hamon is not only pleasing to the eye but also testifies to skilful differential hardening, the mark of a well-made blade. The BO-HI (groove) lightens the blade and improves its handling.
Guard (Tsuba 鍔): The carved, gilded copper is a prestigious choice that combines the strength of the metal with the finesse of Japanese art, while enhancing the visual appeal of the katana with its golden motifs.
Scabbard (Saya 鞘): The blue lacquered wood offers sturdy protection for the blade, and the golden dragon motif, a symbol of power and wisdom, adds a touch of nobility. The white Sageo allows a secure attachment at the belt, ready for a quick draw.
Handle (Tsuka 柄): The genuine blue ray skin is not only attractive but also offers excellent grip. This ray skin is valued for its durability and distinctive texture, which ensures a firm hold.
Fittings: The copper Menuki set and the two bamboo Mekugi underline the attention paid to detail and function, ensuring that the components of the katana stay firmly in place.
The Katana Kurao 淤加 is therefore more than a simple sword; it is a piece of art, an expression of the body and spirit of the samurai, made to last and inspire.
Buying a sword in the UK
Sold only to adults aged 18 and over. Curved swords with a blade of 50 cm or more are hand-forged using traditional methods, as required by the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons) Order as amended in 2008.
Carrying a bladed article in a public place without good reason is an offence. Transport your sword wrapped, and only for a legitimate purpose (dojo, re-enactment, collection). Rules may differ in Scotland.
Care
- Wipe the blade after every handling with a soft cloth; never touch it with bare fingers.
- Apply a thin film of oil every few weeks to prevent rust.
- Store it horizontally in its saya, edge up, away from damp.
- Use only on suitable practice targets (rolled tatami mats, bamboo); never strike hard objects.
