Description and specifications
The Kōbai no Tantō, meaning “Red Plum Blossom Tantō”, represents beauty in resilience: the courage to bloom even in the harshest winter. Its radiant red scabbard, decorated with delicate plum blossoms, embodies life, elegance and renewed strength.
Forged in high-carbon T10 steel and polished to reveal a natural hamon, this tanto combines refined art with precise craftsmanship. The gilded copper fittings, carved with galloping horses, symbolise vitality, freedom and forward movement, the unstoppable energy of spring's return.
SPECIFICATIONS
| Blade | Hand-forged T10 steel with a real hamon line, showing the differential hardening of the blade and its mirror-polished finish. The blade embodies the perfect balance between finesse and durability. |
| Tsuba (hand guard) | Exquisite copper tsuba with horse motifs sculpted in high relief. Every curve captures movement and strength, echoing the untamed spirit of nature. |
| Fittings | Complete set of copper fittings (fuchi, kashira, koiguchi) with gilded accents, detailed engravings and a smooth hand finish that enhance both balance and beauty. |
| Handle (tsuka) | Wooden core wrapped in deep red ito over white samegawa (ray skin). Gilded menuki add brilliance and harmony to the design. |
| Scabbard (saya) | Glossy red lacquered saya hand-painted with ume (plum) blossoms in bloom and black branch motifs. A matching red and white silk saya obi completes the refined presentation. |

| Blade length | 33 cm (12.99 in) |
| Handle (tsuka) length | 17 cm (6.69 in) |

Buying a sword in the UK
Sold only to adults aged 18 and over. Curved swords with a blade of 50 cm or more are hand-forged using traditional methods, as required by the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons) Order as amended in 2008.
Carrying a bladed article in a public place without good reason is an offence. Transport your sword wrapped, and only for a legitimate purpose (dojo, re-enactment, collection). Rules may differ in Scotland.
Care
- Wipe the blade after every handling with a soft cloth; never touch it with bare fingers.
- Apply a thin film of oil every few weeks to prevent rust.
- Store it horizontally in its saya, edge up, away from damp.
- Use only on suitable practice targets (rolled tatami mats, bamboo); never strike hard objects.
