The Damascus steel blade is renowned for its durability, flexibility and characteristic wavy patterns, often compared to the traces of flowing water. This type of blade results from the repeated folding and forging of different kinds of steel, an ancestral technique that strengthens the blade and gives it a unique beauty.
The guard (tsuba) is a true piece of craftsmanship, in finely carved, blackened pure copper, enhanced with gilding that picks out the intricate details of its design. It serves as a hand guard and as the aesthetic centrepiece of the sword.
The scabbard (saya) is covered in light red ray-skin leather, which contrasts with the dark, mysterious look of the blade. Ray skin is appreciated for its granular texture and sturdiness, and is often used in Japanese luxury objects.
The handle (tsuka) is also covered in genuine ray-skin leather, providing a firm and comfortable grip. The katana is adorned with a gilded copper menuki set, adding a touch of elegance and history, as these ornaments often carry symbolism.
With a blade length of 72 cm (28.3 in) and a total weight of 1.4 kg with the scabbard, this katana is as balanced as it is beautiful, a true collector's piece for display.
Sold only to adults aged 18 and over. Curved swords with a blade of 50 cm or more are hand-forged using traditional methods, as required by the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons) Order as amended in 2008.
Carrying a bladed article in a public place without good reason is an offence. Transport your sword wrapped, and only for a legitimate purpose (dojo, re-enactment, collection). Rules may differ in Scotland.
