Blade: The reddish pattern of the Damascus steel catches the eye and evokes the flames of the forge. The bo-hi, or groove, adds to the aesthetics and also contributes to the balance of the blade, reducing its weight for improved handling. Its 72 cm length and 3.2 cm width are ideal for precision and grace in practice.
Tsuba: The sculpted copper guard features bamboo and cherry blossom (sakura) motifs, emblems of strength and renewal in Japanese culture. This makes it not only a protection for the hand but also an ornamental element rich in meaning.
Saya: The lacquered and painted scabbard is both light and durable, decorated to reflect the elegance of the sword it protects. Its delicate artwork complements the blade and shows the attention paid to detail.
Tsuka: The handle, wrapped in white rayskin, offers a firm grip and a striking visual contrast. The copper menuki, taking the form of bamboo, and the bamboo mekugi ensure that the handle is as sound as it is decorative.
With a total weight of 1.2 kg and a length of 103 cm with the scabbard, this katana is well balanced for martial arts practice or as the centrepiece of a collection.
