DESCRIPTION
The Shiryū no Yaiba is designed to stand out with its striking colour palette and exceptional finishes. The intense purple blade, adorned with white dragon engravings, creates a spectacular visual contrast that immediately catches the eye. Forged in 1060 carbon steel, it offers reliable strength and a clean edge, suited to collectors and practitioners alike.
The alloy mountings, decorated with dragons sculpted in gold and silver, reinforce the noble and mythical character of the sword. The tsuba, fuchi and kashira come together in a coherent design inspired by classic Japanese symbols and fantasy aesthetics.
The tsuka is wrapped in deep purple ito over black samegawa, with gilded dragon menuki showing beneath the wrap. The saya continues this expressive theme with sparkling metallic purple lacquer and detailed dragon illustrations, creating a katana that is visually harmonious from start to finish.
With its long 27 cm (10.6 in) handle and well-balanced construction, the Shiryū no Yaiba offers remarkable handling and a fine presence. It stands out as a centrepiece for display, while remaining a real blade in its design and performance.
Buying a sword in the UK
Sold only to adults aged 18 and over. Curved swords with a blade of 50 cm or more are hand-forged using traditional methods, as required by the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons) Order as amended in 2008.
Carrying a bladed article in a public place without good reason is an offence. Transport your sword wrapped, and only for a legitimate purpose (dojo, re-enactment, collection). Rules may differ in Scotland.
Care
- Wipe the blade after every handling with a soft cloth; never touch it with bare fingers.
- Apply a thin film of oil every few weeks to prevent rust.
- Store it horizontally in its saya, edge up, away from damp.
- Use only on suitable practice targets (rolled tatami mats, bamboo); never strike hard objects.
