The Rei 霊 Katana is a work of martial craftsmanship that captures the spirit with its quality materials and captivating aesthetic.

Blade (刀身): Finished in a sky blue, the manganese steel blade is chosen for its resilience and superior hardness. This alloy is known for resisting shocks, giving a robust blade that keeps its appearance over time.

Guard (tsuba 鍔): Made of carved iron, the guard is not only sturdy but also beautifully worked, illustrating strength and elegance. Iron offers added durability and stability, essential for effective hand protection during practice.

Scabbard (saya 鞘): Ebony wood, known for its density and robustness, forms the saya, making it resistant to warping and the damage of time. The bull-horn kurigata improves the hold, adding a touch of exclusivity and character.

Handle (tsuka 柄): Wrapped in genuine shagreen leather, the tsuka offers superior grip and a unique feel. The iron menuki set and the two bamboo mekugi ensure solid construction and aesthetic fidelity, underlining the attention paid to detail and function.

Buying a sword in the UK

Sold only to adults aged 18 and over. Curved swords with a blade of 50 cm or more are hand-forged using traditional methods, as required by the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons) Order as amended in 2008.

Carrying a bladed article in a public place without good reason is an offence. Transport your sword wrapped, and only for a legitimate purpose (dojo, re-enactment, collection). Rules may differ in Scotland.

Care

Wipe the blade after every handling with a soft cloth; never touch it with bare fingers.
Apply a thin film of oil every few weeks to prevent rust.
Store it horizontally in its saya, edge up, away from damp.
Use only on suitable practice targets (rolled tatami mats, bamboo); never strike hard objects.
