The Kurotatsu 黒龍 Katana ("Black Dragon") embodies strength, mystery and craftsmanship. Its Damascus steel blade offers both durability and unique layered patterns that enhance its visual appeal.
Blade: Forged in Damascus steel, the blade reveals traditional wave-like patterns while ensuring strength and resilience.
Guard (Tsuba 鍔): The copper tsuba, adorned with a dragon, is finely detailed, a symbol of protection, wisdom and power.
Scabbard (Saya 鞘): Lacquered black with a bold white and red dragon motif, the saya showcases Japanese mythological art with a modern touch.
Handle (Tsuka 柄): Wrapped in black cord over rayskin, the handle provides a solid grip and traditional authenticity.
Dimensions: Measuring 103 cm (40.6 in) overall, with a 71 cm (28.0 in) blade and a 27 cm (10.6 in) handle, this katana combines balance, reach and striking looks.
The Kurotatsu 黒龍 Katana is both an accessible collector's piece and a bold decorative object rooted in Japanese tradition.
Buying a sword in the UK
Sold only to adults aged 18 and over. Curved swords with a blade of 50 cm or more are hand-forged using traditional methods, as required by the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons) Order as amended in 2008.
Carrying a bladed article in a public place without good reason is an offence. Transport your sword wrapped, and only for a legitimate purpose (dojo, re-enactment, collection). Rules may differ in Scotland.
Care
- Wipe the blade after every handling with a soft cloth; never touch it with bare fingers.
- Apply a thin film of oil every few weeks to prevent rust.
- Store it horizontally in its saya, edge up, away from damp.
- Use only on suitable practice targets (rolled tatami mats, bamboo); never strike hard objects.
