The Katana Umi 海, with its design inspired by the depths of the sea, offers a fusion of power and grace, perfect for connoisseurs of traditional practice swords.

Blade (刀身): T10 steel is renowned for its purity and its ability to be hardened to an optimal level, allowing a complex and distinct Hamon. The carved Hamon is not only an aesthetic feature but a testament to the meticulous craftsmanship that strengthens the integrity of the blade, improves its flexibility and ensures a lasting edge.

Guard (Tsuba 鍔): The premium copper guard is carefully carved, with motifs reminiscent of waves and tides, underlining the union of strength and fluidity. Copper is chosen for its resilience and its weight, which balances the blade and offers superior control when handling.

Scabbard (Saya 鞘): The lightweight wood of the Saya is meticulously lacquered in blue, a colour that evokes the ocean, and decorated with a carved dragon motif, a symbol of wisdom and power. The lightness of the wood makes it easy to carry without sacrificing the strength needed to protect the blade.

Handle (Tsuka 柄): Wrapped in genuine ray skin leather, the handle offers a non-slip grip, essential for precision and safety. Ray skin, renowned for its durability and particular texture, provides a feeling of comfort and elegance. The copper Menuki and bamboo Mekugi add a touch of excellence and refinement, while reinforcing the structure of the Tsuka.

Buying a sword in the UK

Sold only to adults aged 18 and over. Curved swords with a blade of 50 cm or more are hand-forged using traditional methods, as required by the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons) Order as amended in 2008.

Carrying a bladed article in a public place without good reason is an offence. Transport your sword wrapped, and only for a legitimate purpose (dojo, re-enactment, collection). Rules may differ in Scotland.

Care

Wipe the blade after every handling with a soft cloth; never touch it with bare fingers.
Apply a thin film of oil every few weeks to prevent rust.
Store it horizontally in its saya, edge up, away from damp.
Use only on suitable practice targets (rolled tatami mats, bamboo); never strike hard objects.
