The Muromachi 室町 Katana is a tribute to the Muromachi period, known for its art and cultural development, reflecting the essence of that dynamic era.
Blade (刀身): Made from Damascus steel, this blade stands for strength and resilience, with distinct patterning that is not only decorative but also a sign of the quality of the forging. Damascus steel is valued for its layered patterns and its resistance to bending.
Guard (Tsuba 鍔): The tsuba is made of carved zinc alloy, a durable material that allows intricate detail while staying light enough not to unbalance the sword.
Scabbard (Saya 鞘): The black lacquered wood saya is both elegant and practical, protecting the blade while the blue and brown sageo adds a touch of contrasting colour and texture.
Handle (Tsuka 柄): Wrapped in genuine white ray skin, the handle offers a secure grip and a refined look. The brown wrap adds extra grip and classic beauty, while the copper menuki and bamboo mekugi keep the assembly solid.
This Muromachi Katana balances practicality for training with splendour for display, honouring its historical heritage with precise weight and measurements for comfortable handling.
Sold only to adults aged 18 and over. Curved swords with a blade of 50 cm or more are hand-forged using traditional methods, as required by the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons) Order as amended in 2008.
Carrying a bladed article in a public place without good reason is an offence. Transport your sword wrapped, and only for a legitimate purpose (dojo, re-enactment, collection). Rules may differ in Scotland.
