The Kyokujitsu 旭日 Katana embodies craft finesse and sturdy build, combining aesthetics and performance.
Blade (刀身): Its Damascus steel is an ideal choice for a katana of this calibre, offering durability and a striking patterned finish. The wavy patterns on the blade are not only decorative; they result from the meticulous folding of different layers of steel, which gives the blade greater strength and flexibility.
Guard (Tsuba 鍔): The gilded carved copper guard is finely ornamented and serves as both a hand guard and a distinctive aesthetic element.
Scabbard (Saya 鞘): The black lacquered saya, painted with sakura motifs and completed by a pink and white sageo, suggests robustness and timeless elegance while protecting the blade with great style.
Handle (Tsuka 柄): The genuine ray skin around the handle is famous for its durability and comfortable grip, offering a secure hold and a rich texture, reinforced by the copper menuki set and the bamboo mekugi, which underline quality and tradition.
With its balanced dimensions and optimal weight, the Kyokujitsu Katana is both a tool for the serious practitioner and a work of art for the discerning collector.
Buying a sword in the UK
Sold only to adults aged 18 and over. Curved swords with a blade of 50 cm or more are hand-forged using traditional methods, as required by the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons) Order as amended in 2008.
Carrying a bladed article in a public place without good reason is an offence. Transport your sword wrapped, and only for a legitimate purpose (dojo, re-enactment, collection). Rules may differ in Scotland.
Care
- Wipe the blade after every handling with a soft cloth; never touch it with bare fingers.
- Apply a thin film of oil every few weeks to prevent rust.
- Store it horizontally in its saya, edge up, away from damp.
- Use only on suitable practice targets (rolled tatami mats, bamboo); never strike hard objects.
