DESCRIPTION
The Kurochō Katana – 黒蝶 is made for enthusiasts who value aesthetics as much as structure. Its blade has a deep black finish that sets off the engraved silver patterns: undulating vines, flowers in full bloom and the emblematic butterfly, a symbol of transformation and grace.
The white tsuka, wrapped in traditional ito, offers a bold contrast that reinforces the katana's visual identity, while the tsuba, adorned with gold accents, adds a touch of subtle refinement. The saya has a black and white marbled pattern, creating an elegant swirling effect reminiscent of ink drifting on water.
Balanced, expressive and superbly coordinated in its monochrome theme, the Kurochō is a remarkable piece for display, for a gift, or to complete a themed collection. It gives off a serene yet powerful presence – perfect for those drawn to the harmony between darkness and light.
Buying a sword in the UK
Sold only to adults aged 18 and over. Curved swords with a blade of 50 cm or more are hand-forged using traditional methods, as required by the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons) Order as amended in 2008.
Carrying a bladed article in a public place without good reason is an offence. Transport your sword wrapped, and only for a legitimate purpose (dojo, re-enactment, collection). Rules may differ in Scotland.
Care
- Wipe the blade after every handling with a soft cloth; never touch it with bare fingers.
- Apply a thin film of oil every few weeks to prevent rust.
- Store it horizontally in its saya, edge up, away from damp.
- Use only on suitable practice targets (rolled tatami mats, bamboo); never strike hard objects.
