The Yonaguni 与那国 katana is a masterpiece that evokes the mysterious island of the same name, known for its crystal-clear waters and buried mysteries.

Blade (刀身): T10 steel, renowned for its abrasion resistance and lasting edge, was chosen for this katana. The crossed hamon is not only aesthetically pleasing but also testifies to the smith's technical mastery, giving a blade as capable as it is beautiful. The mirror polish reflects not only the surroundings but also the purity of the art of the sword.

Guard (Tsuba 鍔): In finely carved copper with gilding, the tsuba illustrates richness and majesty. Copper is prized for its malleability, which allows complex patterns to be created, and for a patina that grows more beautiful with time, adding character to the sword.

Scabbard (Saya 鞘): The magnolia wood saya, lacquered in light blue, recalls the clear waters of Yonaguni. This wood is specially selected for its quality and its ability to protect the blade from the elements, while adding a distinctive note of colour.

Handle (Tsuka 柄): Solid wood provides a firm foundation, while the white galuchat leather brings a rich texture and a secure grip. This leather is renowned for its strength and beauty, echoing the rare and precious pearls of the sea.

The Yonaguni 与那国 katana is an exceptional collector's piece that will delight connoisseurs, reflecting the harmony between the art of the forge and the wonders of nature.

Buying a sword in the UK

Sold only to adults aged 18 and over. Curved swords with a blade of 50 cm or more are hand-forged using traditional methods, as required by the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons) Order as amended in 2008.

Carrying a bladed article in a public place without good reason is an offence. Transport your sword wrapped, and only for a legitimate purpose (dojo, re-enactment, collection). Rules may differ in Scotland.

Care

Wipe the blade after every handling with a soft cloth; never touch it with bare fingers.
Apply a thin film of oil every few weeks to prevent rust.
Store it horizontally in its saya, edge up, away from damp.
Use only on suitable practice targets (rolled tatami mats, bamboo); never strike hard objects.
