The Toyotomi 豊臣氏 Katana embodies art and history, designed to capture the essence of a bygone era.

Blade (刀身): The T10 steel of the blade is chosen for its purity and strength, allowing a distinct hamon and a bo-hi (fuller) that lightens the blade. These features make the blade an excellent choice for practice and demonstration of katana handling.

Guard (Tsuba 鍔): The finely sculpted copper tsuba is not only pleasing to the eye but also durable. Copper, known for its malleability, allows intricate and subtle detail while ensuring the longevity of the whole, an asset for collectors and practitioners alike.

Scabbard (Saya 鞘): The lacquered wood of the saya is embellished with Toyotomi clan motifs, adding historical depth to the katana. The wood offers reliable, resilient protection for the blade, while the lacquer provides a lustrous, long-lasting finish.

Handle (Tsuka 柄): The genuine black rayskin offers a secure and comfortable grip, its unique texture providing extra hold. The copper menuki enrich the look and add further solidity to the handle assembly.

Buying a sword in the UK

Sold only to adults aged 18 and over. Curved swords with a blade of 50 cm or more are hand-forged using traditional methods, as required by the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons) Order as amended in 2008.

Carrying a bladed article in a public place without good reason is an offence. Transport your sword wrapped, and only for a legitimate purpose (dojo, re-enactment, collection). Rules may differ in Scotland.

Care

Wipe the blade after every handling with a soft cloth; never touch it with bare fingers.
Apply a thin film of oil every few weeks to prevent rust.
Store it horizontally in its saya, edge up, away from damp.
Use only on suitable practice targets (rolled tatami mats, bamboo); never strike hard objects.
