The Sensou 戦争 Katana is a work of martial art that embodies the samurai tradition with formidable elegance.
Blade (刀身): Forged in T10 steel, the blade features a distinctive hamon, a sign of skilled heat treatment, giving the blade exceptional resilience. T10 steel is known for its high carbon content, which gives it notable hardness.
Guard (Tsuba 鍔): The zinc alloy tsuba is a focal point of this piece, offering robustness and corrosion resistance, with intricate engravings that evoke the stories of ancient Japan.
Scabbard (Saya 鞘): The saya, a deep black set off with red, is made of wood and finished with a protective lacquer. This finish is not only decorative but also helps protect the blade from the elements, preserving its quality and longevity.
Handle (Tsuka 柄): The tsuka is wrapped in genuine red rayskin, a material prized for its toughness and grip, contrasted with a traditional black cord wrap. The copper menuki and bamboo mekugi add extra solidity and finesse to the finishing.
The Sensou 戦争 is a piece made for the practitioner who values function as much as form, a sword that reflects power and precision in the art of handling the katana.
Buying a sword in the UK
Sold only to adults aged 18 and over. Curved swords with a blade of 50 cm or more are hand-forged using traditional methods, as required by the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons) Order as amended in 2008.
Carrying a bladed article in a public place without good reason is an offence. Transport your sword wrapped, and only for a legitimate purpose (dojo, re-enactment, collection). Rules may differ in Scotland.
Care
- Wipe the blade after every handling with a soft cloth; never touch it with bare fingers.
- Apply a thin film of oil every few weeks to prevent rust.
- Store it horizontally in its saya, edge up, away from damp.
- Use only on suitable practice targets (rolled tatami mats, bamboo); never strike hard objects.
