The Sabana サバンナ Katana has a look as striking as the wild expanses of Africa, with details that reflect finesse and strength.
Blade (刀身): T10 steel, known for its superior toughness and its ability to take a mirror polish, is enhanced here by a wave-shaped hamon, evoking the movement of the savannah in the wind. T10 steel offers added durability and toughness, making this blade as robust as it is beautiful.
Guard (tsuba 鍔): The copper guard, a malleable and corrosion-resistant metal, is carved and decorated with gold and silver motifs recalling the lush flora of a distant landscape. Copper adds a touch of nobility and authenticity while protecting the hand.
Scabbard (saya 鞘): The red-lacquered wood scabbard immediately catches the eye with its tiger motifs, suggesting the power and agility of the animal. The wood gives solid protection for the blade, while the lacquer provides a smooth finish and protection against the elements.
Handle (tsuka 柄): Covered in genuine white shagreen, the handle offers an excellent hold thanks to the unique texture of this material, which provides grip and comfort. The copper menuki and bamboo mekugi reinforce the structure of the handle for balance and integrity.
Buying a sword in the UK
Sold only to adults aged 18 and over. Curved swords with a blade of 50 cm or more are hand-forged using traditional methods, as required by the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons) Order as amended in 2008.
Carrying a bladed article in a public place without good reason is an offence. Transport your sword wrapped, and only for a legitimate purpose (dojo, re-enactment, collection). Rules may differ in Scotland.
Care
- Wipe the blade after every handling with a soft cloth; never touch it with bare fingers.
- Apply a thin film of oil every few weeks to prevent rust.
- Store it horizontally in its saya, edge up, away from damp.
- Use only on suitable practice targets (rolled tatami mats, bamboo); never strike hard objects.
