The Numachi 沼地 katana is an exceptional piece that embodies the beauty and power rising from the mysterious depths of the marshes.

Blade (刀身): The blade shows a Damascus hamon with a mirror polish, offering not only a striking look thanks to the wavy patterns characteristic of Damascus, but also a structure reinforced by the combination of different steels. This type of blade is renowned for its strength and lasting edge, reflecting the smith's art and mastery.

Guard (Tsuba 鍔): In pure copper with carved gilt silver details, the guard is a true piece of goldsmith's work that combines the softness of copper with the resilience of silver, offering good protection and a refined aesthetic.

Scabbard (Saya 鞘): Ebony wood was chosen for the saya for its robustness and natural elegance. The bull-horn kurigata adds a touch of nobility and shows attention to detail. The solidity of these materials ensures reliable protection for the blade while giving a distinguished look.

Handle (Tsuka 柄): Genuine ray skin (galuchat) leather is recognised for its distinctive granular texture, which gives a firm grip. The durability and luxurious look of genuine galuchat make every grip as secure as it is prestigious.

Buying a sword in the UK

Sold only to adults aged 18 and over. Curved swords with a blade of 50 cm or more are hand-forged using traditional methods, as required by the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons) Order as amended in 2008.

Carrying a bladed article in a public place without good reason is an offence. Transport your sword wrapped, and only for a legitimate purpose (dojo, re-enactment, collection). Rules may differ in Scotland.

Care

Wipe the blade after every handling with a soft cloth; never touch it with bare fingers.
Apply a thin film of oil every few weeks to prevent rust.
Store it horizontally in its saya, edge up, away from damp.
Use only on suitable practice targets (rolled tatami mats, bamboo); never strike hard objects.
